baumannii complex内の菌種を鑑別することは困難であった。non-A. baumannii complexは，A. baumannii complexと比較し，菌体が細い，またはコロニーが小さめでやや乾いた質感など形態的特徴を認めるものがあった。さらに，A. johnsonii，A. calcoaceticusおよびA. lwoffiiは一部のグラム陰性桿菌用選択培地に発育しなかった。rpoB遺伝子部分シークエンス（rpoB）の解析結果を基準にした各法の一致率はE/NF 77.1％，NID 62.9％，GN 88.6％およびMS 91.4％であった。16S rRNA遺伝子シークエンスとrpoBとの一致率は48.6％（17株/35株）であった。rpoBの解析からA. baumannii complexの内訳は，A. nosocomialisが50％と最も多く，次いで代表菌種のA. baumanniiは21.4％であった。A. baumannii complexの菌種間において，重症度に違いはみられなかったが，A. baumannii complexとnon-A. baumannii
